Doug began his construction profession as a union plumber in Philadelphia in the early 70's. Upon moving to Arizona in 1983, he founded his first construction company in Apache Junction. He built his company using a hands-on approach, working with his crew in the field, laying block, plumbing, framing, hanging drywall and tackling the most complex and challenging aspects to gain a thorough understanding of construction. He expanded his home building business to Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Mesa, Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, and Prescott Valley before making Prescott his home.
In 2003, Doug and his partner, Shonette, formed Designer Homes By Szabo, LLC. Much of their success can be attributed to the blend of Doug's design and construction talents with Shonette's business management and administrative skills.

Before moving to Arizona, Shonette held numerous management positions over an 18 year tenure with a Fortune 500 Company on the East Coast. She credits her strong business ethics and diverse background in the real estate and mortgage industries for her success in the role of partner and office manager/project administrator for Designer Homes By Szabo. Shonette handles all administrative and marketing operations to ensure that business affairs and client needs are upheld to the highest levels. She operates in an open book manner whereby all information is shared with each client. The actual cost of the job is charged plus a fee, which is a percentage of the job. Conducting business in this manner allows for participation of the homeowner not only in the design and construction of the project but in the costing and budgeting as well. The client knows where the project stands at all times.
Doug and his wife Shonette reside in Prescott, Arizona along with their teenage son Aaron and Shetland sheepdog Jazmine. Their hobbies include travel, gardening, the beach and outdoor activities.
As a small volume, high-end builder, their mission is to deliver a well-organized and carefully planned construction schedule to complete each client's home on time and on budget. The principals of Designer Homes By Szabo take great pride in providing exceptional “design-build” expertise and responsive service to all of their clients.
